A Message from the President

Dear CSU alumni, friends and partners,

In May, the Class of 2023 walked across the commencement stage in the Wolstein Center, cheered on by family members, friends, members of our faculty and fellow classmates. Among these eager graduates were some of the first students to complete degrees under our three new colleges: the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Health, and the Levin College of Public Affairs and Education. These fresh graduates have become our newest cohort of CSU alumni, growing our community even further. 

A key highlight of this past academic year has been our growth. We are certainly growing in service of our mission. As we planned each step forward, we invited faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends to assist in identifying priorities for student success and community engagement. For instance, our campus master plan, adopted by the Board of Trustees in January, is our guiding vision for our downtown location in the years to come. With both bold new construction and creative renovations, we are prioritizing a more robust on-campus community, flexible learning spaces and further connections with the region. 

This spring, we also unveiled a new branding initiative and marketing materials. Our strategic approach to marketing our colleges, research and internship opportunities, athletic programs and student experience will allow us to attract and inspire more prospective students. We are proudly sharing the voices of today’s students and the stories of our inspirational alumni, all culminating in one clear message: “We are Cleveland State University.”

This issue of Cleveland State Magazine focuses on our graduates who have taken their CSU educations back to their communities. These alumni are instrumental to the region, providing service, leadership and advocacy. 

Their stories are inspiring, and yet these alumni are just a sampling of CSU Vikings nationwide who are making a difference each and every day. As these alums share their talents with the world, here on our campus, we will work hard every day to provide a transformative education to even more students. As we reach more students, we have the opportunity to develop the leaders who will, in turn, bring their passion, experience and innovation to wherever they call home.
